During the past month, the Class of 2005 lost two leaders – Chris Civali and Colin Foote – in tragic accidents.

Civali died May 2 after an accidental fall in Brookline, Mass. Only 14 days later, Foote died after being struck while riding his motorcycle in Charlestown, R.I.

In March, the Class of 2007 also mourned the loss of Connor Donohue, who died after his New York City apartment’s terrace railing broke away.

Civali served as class president, spoke at Commencement and even met his wife, Kristina Lewis Civali ’05, as an undergraduate. More recently, he was a law student at Suffolk University and was expected to graduate near the top of his class.

Foote was a student senator, member of the Young Republicans and class vice president during his junior and senior years. He was working as a public relations account manager for Regan Communications in Providence, R.I. His brother, Christopher C. Foote, is a member of the Class of 2008.

Donohue was dean of students at Prep for Prep, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of talented but underserved youth in New York. Last year, he was selected by the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service for a Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Services.

The Class of 2005 will have a special gathering at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 5 during Reunion weekend to remember Civali and Foote. Father Larry LaPointe, one of the College’s chaplains, will join the class. The class is also raising $2,000 to plant trees on campus in honor of Civali and Foote. To give, go to http://giving.conncoll.edu; be sure to note the purpose of your gift in the “additional comments” box.

Friends have set up memorial groups for Civali, Donohue and Foote on Facebook. The College community can share their condolences there:
