Reunion 2013: Coming Home

A crowd of more than 1,000 alumni, parents and family members were on campus for Reunion weekend May 31-June 2.

Alumni whose class years ended in ’3 or ’8 enjoyed class dinners and receptions, music and dancing, panels led by classmates and professors and a keynote speech by Fernando Espuelas ’88, the CEO of Voxgente, a multiplatform digital media company. Espuelas spoke about the growing need for change within our political system and our challenge as Americans to be agents of change.

This year, the theme was “Revisit & Rediscover,” and the events and programs provided attendees the opportunity to tour new buildings and spaces around campus and hear and see first-hand how the College has been transformed by the Campaign for Connecticut College.

On Saturday, graduates paraded down Cro Boulevard for the annual alumni parade, with many sporting hats, matching scarves, feather boas and class banners. Alumni Convocation followed the parade and featured a presentation of the College Medal to The Very Rev. Laurence LaPointe and Jewel Plummer Cobb. Six alumni were also honored for their achievements, and President Leo I. Higdon, Jr. provided an update on the College’s momentum and described the investments and enhancements that have taken the institution to a whole new level of excellence.

Members of the Class of 1963 were the guests of honor at this year’s Sykes Society Luncheon, featuring classmate Amy Gross ’63 as the keynote speaker. Gross shared her experiences transitioning from journalism to mindfulness mediation.

Celebration VIII, held every few years for alumni of color, was well attended, and attendees enjoyed special programs, a Unity House reception and an opportunity to reminisce about their time at the College.

This year, a new Reunion dashboard was launched, including a live Twitter stream, to encourage alumni to connect with each other leading up to and throughout the weekend.
