Camels off and running in October

Both the Connecticut College men’s and women’s cross country squads had a successful month in October, led by outstanding individual performances and highlighted by strong finishes at the College’s annual competition.

Ashley Curran ’17 set the College’s record in the 6K with a time of 21:41 at the Connecticut College Invitational Oct. 17 at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn. She placed fourth individually, as the team placed seventh.

The performance earned her New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.

Ben Bosworth ’17 was named the Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week by NESCAC after leading the Camels to a second-place finish at the invitational. Bosworth finished second in the 8K with a time of 25:03, one of three Camel runners to finish in the top 20.

The men’s cross country team is currently ranked No. 9 in New England in the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association rankings.

Other October highlights:

  • The women’s volleyball team is currently ranked No. 7 in New England, sporting a 15-6 record. The team has won 11 of its last 13 matches; in eight of those wins, the Camels failed to lose a single set.
  • The men’s soccer team is 10-4-1 on the season, looking to make its first appearance in the national tournament since 1993. The Camels recently had a seven-game unbeaten streak snapped, a run that saw them reach #24 in the national D3soccer.com Poll.
  • The field hockey team is finishing out their season slate strong. The Camels recently rattled off three straight wins over Bates, Eastern Connecticut State and Manhattanville. Leading the charge is Katlyn Paiva ’18, who paces the team with six goals and three assists.
