Helen Brooks Regan, Professor of Education, retired from Connecticut College in 2006. She went on to teach the education department at Bates College for the next two years.

While on sabbatical in 2005, Professor Regan pursued her interests in women and leadership as a Visiting Research Scholar at the Women's Studies Center of Brandeis University and returned to teach a new seminar titled "Gender, Power and Leadership" at Connecticut College.

In 2003-2004, Helen Regan served as Special Assistant to the President, coordinating a College strategic planning process. She also served as Interim Vice President for Advancement from May-October 2004.

She served as Dean of the Faculty from 2000 to 2003. In this capacity, she was responsible for all academic departments, interdisciplinary programs, academic centers, and athletics and physical education. She also served as Interim President of the Lyman Allyn Art Museum from 2002 to 2004.

She served at Wheelock College as Vice-president of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer from 1999-2000.
Prior to that, she was Associate Provost/Associate Dean of the Faculty at Connecticut College, and as Special Assistant to the Provost from 1997-99, she coordinated the launching of the Teaching Resource Center, coordinated the Consortium for the Advancement of Higher Education Project on the Improvement of Teaching, and served as chair of the Graduate Studies and Continuing Education committees.

Professor Regan was Chair of the Education Department at Connecticut College from 1987-92, 1993-94 and 1996-97. She was Coordinator of the Secondary Certification Program from 1985-1988. She taught Foundations of Education, Teaching and Learning in the Content Area, Science and Mathematics in the Elementary School, and Principles of Learning to aspiring teachers at the College.

Her research interests include women and leadership, assessment of learning and science education. She has received research support from the Spencer Foundation.

Professor Regan has published articles in the Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education, Teaching Education, Journal of Teacher Education, Teachers College Record, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals Bulletin.

Her books include Out of Women's Experience with Gwen Brooks, A New Model of Teacher Supervision and Evaluation with Marjorie Anctil and The Staff Development Manager, A Guide to Professional Growth with Marjorie Bradley and Bena Kallick.

Regan has also worked on a variety of consulting projects, including the Connecticut Beginning Teacher Support and Training Program (BEST), the Professional Educator Development Program and the School Education Support and Assessment Program.
