Friday - Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Exhibit: Wish You Were Here: A Collection of Boring Postcards
Drawn from a collection of over 200 postcards, this exhibition, curated by students in Professor Christopher Steiner’s advanced seminar on “Bad Art,” celebrates the lackluster aesthetics of the mundane. Taken as a whole, and looked at closely, these “boring” postcards offer an engrossing visual experience that puts into conversation sentiments of post-World War II optimism and an existential commentary on the desolation of modern existence. This exhibition showcases a collection of “Chrome Postcards” from the 1950s-70s. Named after Kodachrome film (which produced glossy surface color prints) these shiny, oversaturated full-color postcards feature popular tourist destinations, advertisements for household goods and appliances, and images of roadside attractions, museums, motels, restaurants, bars, gas stations, and highways.

Claiming our Place in Education: The Continuous Evolution of Gender, Sexuality, and Intersectionality Studies an exhibition from the College Archives, celebrates 25 years of the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Intersectionality Studies and explores the rich history of women’s and gender studies at Connecticut College beginning in the 1970s. Over this time it slowly but rightfully staked its place in both the College and the greater field of education. In the 25 years since becoming a department, GSIS has developed a specialized and intellectual home for the study of gender, sexuality, and their intersections with race, nation, disability, and class. This would not be possible without the work of dedicated faculty, staff, students, alumni, and speakers, all claiming their places in education.

Friday - Sunday, Sunrise to Sunset, Self-Guided Tour of the Arboretum
The Arboretum was established in 1931 and is owned and operated by Connecticut College. This self-guided tour, which begins at the notice board just inside the Williams Street entrance of the Arboretum, is an introduction to the 25-acre collection of trees and shrubs native to eastern North America, and to some of southern New England’s common biological communities. The main trail is approximately two miles long and should take about one hour to complete at a leisurely pace.

The Class of 1974 is invited to join Dean of Students, Victor Arcelus, for a historic walking tour of the campus that will showcase exciting campus renovations. Explore new campus walkways, sustainable energy sources, the Sprout Garden, and exciting renovations to Fanning Hall, the Charles E. Shain Library, Olin Science Center, and the Athey Center for Performance and Research at Palmer Auditorium. Golf cart transportation is available if needed.

Alums who are celebrating or have celebrated their 50th Reunion are invited to attend the Sykes Society Luncheon. Professor Suzuko Knott, Associate Professor of German and Director of the Toor Cummings Center for International Studies & the Liberal Arts (CISLA), will deliver a Keynote Address: AI and its impact on Connecticut College. How students learn has changed radically with the common use of the internet, laptops, and now Artificial Intelligence. How do we measure success in education today? What implications does AI have on teaching and the Honor Code? Answers await.

Take a tour of the Arboretum with Maggie Redfern, Director of the Arboretum. Explore the Native Plant Collection; witness stunning mountain laurels, azaleas, and magnolias in full bloom; and tour the Arboretum team’s new offices on Gallows Lane.
The tour will meet at 33 Gallows Lane. Trolleys will be available in front of the College Center at Crozier-Williams to Gallows Lane and back.
1:45 – 5 p.m. A Class of 1974 Program | Walking Tour of Downtown New London with Mayor Michael Passero ’79
The Class of 1974 is invited to take a Water Taxi ride from the Kohn Waterfront, up the Thames River, to the New London City Pier, where they will join the Mayor of New London, Michael Passero ’79, for a walking tour of New London, focused on urban renewal, historic architecture, and the Town & Gown relationship with Connecticut College. A shuttle to the Waterfront will leave the College Center at Crozier-Williams at 1:45 p.m. Bus transportation will take all non-sea-fearing classmates and guests to the City Pier. Bus transportation will bring all alums and guests back to campus at 5 p.m.

Join Greg Surman, Film Studies Technical Support Specialist at The Stark Center for the Moving Image, for a close-up, behind-the-scenes look at one of the newest spaces at the College. The Stark Center serves as the first-ever centralized social and academic hub for one of the fastest-growing majors and fields of study at the College.

3:30 - 4:30 p.m. CELEBRATIONS: Neurodiverse Black Youth - Intersectional Experiences & System Challenges
Rashelle Litchmore, Assistant Professor of Human Development, will describe her ongoing work in Ontario, Canada on the experiences of Black youth in the education system, with a focus on Neurodiverse Black youth, She will outline a community-based, youth-led research project work being done in partnership with the Centre for Diverse Learners of Halton-Hamilton, Ontario, Ase Community Foundation for Black Canadians with Disabilities, and the Afro-Canadian Caribbean Association of Hamilton. The presentation will include consideration of the challenges faced by Black researchers doing equity focused work in the years following the 2020 “racial reckoning”.

His company, David Dorfman Dance, considered one of the most influential American contemporary dance companies for the past two decades, was permanently named company-in-residence at the College in Fall 2007. On October 9, 2017, the Tubbs Fire roared through and leveled whole neighborhoods in Santa Rosa, California. With minutes to escape, thousands of family pets were lost or injured. Join the Class of 1974 and The Fire Cats Director, Katharine Parsons ’74 P’00 ’23 for a private screening of her film, which tells stories of the heroic cat rescuers who have devoted their lives to finding and returning the cats to their families who had lost everything. The College Archives is bringing back the Alumni Oral History Program to capture and preserve the stories of alumni and their time at Connecticut College. We are looking for a few alums to volunteer during Reunion Weekend, either by conducting interviews, participating as interviewees, or both. No previous experience is necessary - we will provide the audio equipment and training and some fun swag! Space is limited and prior registration is required. Show your skill and challenge other alumni in a fight for the title of Connecticut College Cornhole Reunion Champion. Bring your partner and enter into some light-hearted competition. The winners will receive a Connecticut College swag bundle and the honor of being the best on campus! Open to all classes and hosted as part of the CC Blues & Brews Waterfront Bash.
